What happened. On 28 October 2026 Norway's Equinor published its July to September results. Net operating income was $11.95 billion, against $5.27 billion a year earlier. Adjusted operating income was $12.35 billion. Net income was $2.54 billion, and adjusted net income $2.86 billion, or $1.20 per share.
Against expectations. According to OilPrice.com, adjusted operating income came in slightly above the $12.19 billion consensus compiled by Equinor. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.20 were below the expected $1.37.
Where the profit came from. The company points to higher liquids prices, higher European gas prices and strong refining margins. Equinor's realised European gas price was $20 per million BTU, and its liquids price $92.3 a barrel. The Mongstad refinery delivered a record result.
Production. Output averaged 2.166 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, up 2% on a year earlier. Norwegian output was stable: new fields offset natural decline and outages at Johan Castberg and Troll. International output rose 21%, helped by Adura in the UK and Bacalhau in Brazil. Guidance for 2026 production growth was raised from 3% to about 4%.
Cash for shareholders. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.39 per share. The fourth and final 2026 buy-back tranche of up to $1.125 billion starts on 29 October and ends no later than 1 February 2027. The full 2026 programme is up to $3 billion. The adjusted net debt to capital employed ratio fell to 3.8% from 10.4% a quarter earlier.
Keep in mind. Today's high oil and gas prices are tied to global tension and can change fast. A quarterly report shows the past. This is not advice to buy or sell.
