Qué pasó
On 30 October Mexico's statistics institute INEGI published its flash GDP estimate for the third quarter of 2026. Adjusted for seasonal swings, the economy grew 0.9% from the previous quarter and 3.2% from the same quarter of 2025. Services rose 1.1%, industry 0.8%, and farming slipped 0.4%.
Por qué te importa
Mexico is Latin America's second biggest economy and the top trade partner of the US. Strong growth supports the peso and demand for Mexican assets. If you hold emerging market funds, Mexico is a big part of many of them.
Qué revisar y vigilar
This is an early number: INEGI builds it from incomplete data, and the full estimate comes in November. Watch whether the growth holds and how Mexico's central bank reads it. This is an overview, not money advice.
What happened. On 30 October INEGI released its flash estimate of third quarter 2026 GDP. Adjusted for seasonal swings, GDP grew 0.9% from the second quarter and 3.2% from the third quarter of 2025. Over the first nine months of 2026 growth was 1.9% on the same period last year.
What drove it. Services grew 1.1% on the quarter and 3.3% on the year. Industry added 0.8% on the quarter and 3.1% on the year. Farming fell 0.4% on the quarter but rose 1.8% on the year.
Context. By the count of the news agency EFE, this is the third quarter of growth in a row. Mexico's economy was weak in 2025: GDP fell on the year in the second and third quarters. The US buys most of Mexico's exports, and US GDP also grew fast in the third quarter, at a 3.4% annualized rate.
Limits. The flash estimate uses data for the first two months of the quarter plus models, and it does not replace the regular GDP calculation. The figures can change. The next flash estimate, for the fourth quarter, is due on 29 January 2027.
What we don't know. How much the full estimate will change the number. How Mexico's central bank will react. How US trade policy after the midterm elections will affect trade.
