Hong Kong names Solana Company a strategic enterprise

What happened. On 22 October Hong Kong's Financial Secretary Paul Chan welcomed 18 new strategic enterprises at an OASES ceremony. That brings the program to 142 companies. Half of the new batch comes from the Chinese Mainland and half from other parts of the world. The government lists sectors such as AI, fintech, new energy and health technology.

Who Solana Company is. It is a Nasdaq-listed company (ticker HSDT). It holds SOL tokens in its treasury, runs validators (computers that check blocks on the network) and advises banks on blockchain. On the same day it said it was part of the seventh OASES batch.

What it promises. Its Hong Kong office will serve as its Asia-Pacific headquarters. Under its Pacific Backbone initiative the company will set up Solana validator operations in the city. A company spokesperson told Cointelegraph that the status gives it one point of contact across agencies and regulators, a faster path to hire overseas talent and introductions to local institutions.

Context. The company says the status came weeks after Hong Kong set a goal of a world-leading licensing and regulatory regime for digital assets in its First Five-Year Plan. We give no forecast for SOL or HSDT and no advice to buy or sell.
