发生了什么

The KOSPI, South Korea's main stock index, closed at 5,550.30 on 23 October, up 16.53 points or 0.3%. Earlier it was down more than 4%, KED Global reports. It lost 3.52% the day before. A US tech selloff hit first: the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.6% and Meta shares fell about 7% on worries about its AI spending.

Bloomberg, quoted by CNBC-TV18, calls the KOSPI a key indicator for the AI sector. So a swing in Seoul shows how nervous investors worldwide are about AI spending. The rebound came as SK Hynix halted its review of a Solidigm IPO in the US. Its shares rose 4.42%.

要核实和关注什么

A calm close is not a calm market. KED Global says weakness across most large caps points to fragile sentiment. Watch whether US tech steadies in the next session, and how SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics trade.

South Korea's main stock index, the KOSPI, had a wild Friday, 23 October 2026. It opened 2.36% lower, according to Yonhap. During the session it was down more than 4%, KED Global reports. By the close it was up 16.53 points, or 0.3%, at 5,550.30. Yonhap says investors hunted for bargains in major chip stocks.

The trigger came from the United States. On Thursday 22 October the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.6% and the S&P 500 fell 1.21%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.02%. Micron fell 6.26%, Nvidia 4.4% and Intel 8.04%. MoneyToday adds that Meta shares fell about 7%, because its large AI investment plan raised worries about funding and profitability. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 7% at one point in the session, it says. Seoul had already fallen 3.52% on Thursday, to 5,533.77, KED Global reports.

The rebound had a local spark. Before the open, SK Hynix said it would halt its review of a US listing for Solidigm, its NAND-memory subsidiary. An SK Hynix official said the reason was recent capital market conditions and share price trends, not the growth outlook of Solidigm. KED Global says SK Hynix rallied after the company dropped the plan. Yonhap has SK Hynix up 4.42% at 1.28 million won after opening lower. Samsung Electronics rose 0.47% to 215,500 won.

Why does a Seoul index matter to a reader in another country? Bloomberg, quoted by CNBC-TV18, calls the KOSPI a key indicator for the AI sector. That makes it a useful place to read the mood about AI. This is our reading, not a claim from the sources.

Now the caution. A 0.3% gain after a 4% drop looks calm, but it hides a lot. KED Global says weakness across most large caps points to fragile sentiment. Yonhap describes most large-cap shares as mixed. Individual investors were net sellers early and turned net buyers later. Yonhap also notes the won strengthened a little, to 1,324.6 per dollar at 3:30 p.m. Seoul time.

What we do not know is whether this is a pause or a turn. One session cannot tell. The sources do not say what would settle the AI spending worry. We are not forecasting, and this is not investment advice.
