What happened
On Monday, 19 October, US spot bitcoin ETFs took in $526.7M net. An ETF is a fund that trades on an exchange like a stock and holds real bitcoin. BlackRock's IBIT brought in $665.2M. Fidelity's FBTC lost $83.6M, Grayscale's GBTC $54.9M, and the rest saw no flows.
Why it matters to you
ETFs are the main door for big traditional money into bitcoin. When money flows in, the funds buy bitcoin on the market. Money had been leaving for two weeks, so one strong day is a signal, not a turnaround yet.
What to check and watch
See whether inflows repeat over the next few days. October is still about $88M negative overall. Ether ETFs saw $103M leave on the same day.
According to Farside Investors, net inflows into all US spot bitcoin ETFs were $526.7M on 19 October. Cointelegraph says it was the strongest day since 22 September, when the funds took in $714.7M.
The picture is uneven. BlackRock's IBIT delivered the whole gain and more: $665.2M. Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC lost almost $140M between them on the same day. The other nine funds in Farside's table saw no flows.
The mood was weaker before. On Friday, 16 October, the funds lost $82.4M, and about $228M over the week of 12 to 16 October. Even with Monday's inflow, October is still about $88M negative.
Ether funds went the other way. Cointelegraph, citing Farside, reports $103.3M of outflows on Monday, $95.4M of it from BlackRock's ETHA, and a third straight week of outflows.
ETF inflows do not guarantee a higher price. They are one gauge of demand, and they often flip from day to day.
