Hyperliquid is in focus: ICE, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, and Trade[XYZ] plan a regulated US market for perpetual futures, but only if regulators approve.

What happened

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), owner of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and Trade[XYZ] announced a deal on 29 October to bring Trade[XYZ]'s perpetual futures markets on Hyperliquid into US regulation. It depends on regulatory approvals. ICE is also investing in Trade[XYZ], terms undisclosed.

Why it matters to you

A perpetual future (perp) is a contract on an asset's price with no end date. Today these contracts trade mostly on offshore venues that US investors cannot use. If the plan is approved, they would get a regulated option. There is no start date or eligibility list yet.

What to check and watch

Watch for regulator decisions and for details on timing and who can access it. This is not advice to buy or sell HYPE or anything else.

What happened. On 29 October 2026, ICE and Trade[XYZ] announced a definitive agreement to bring Trade[XYZ]'s perpetual futures markets onshore in the United States. The one condition is regulatory approval. Trade[XYZ] offers contracts on equities, equity indices, commodities and currencies on Hyperliquid, around the clock, to eligible users outside the US. Hyperliquid provides the infrastructure, and Trade[XYZ] designs the products.

What they plan to build. ICE intends to set up a new, dedicated, regulated retail market and clearing structure. Clearing is the back-end system that makes sure trades settle. ICE would be the exclusive operator of Trade[XYZ]'s regulated markets. CoinDesk reports the venue would be branded ICE[XYZ] and list contracts on equities, indices, commodities, FX and crypto through participating brokers and platforms. Customers would be verified under KYC and AML rules and would come in through broker members of the platform.

What stays the same. Trade[XYZ] says, as CoinDesk reports, that its Hyperliquid markets will keep running alongside the US venue. ICE stresses that the new business will run separately from its institutional business, and that its existing institutional customers bear no exposure to the risk of retail traders on the new platform.

Who is behind it. ICE is making a strategic investment in Trade[XYZ], terms undisclosed. ICE says it is a minority stake and not expected to have a material impact on its 2026 adjusted results. CoinDesk names investor Stan Druckenmiller among the backers. Trade[XYZ] says its Hyperliquid markets have topped $650 billion in volume in just over a year.

Where customers would come from. ICE counts on the brokers and platforms retail traders already use, including its joint venture with OKX. That venture also needs its own approvals as a broker-dealer and an FCM, a futures commission merchant, which is an intermediary in futures trading.

What we do not know. When the venue opens, who will be able to use it, which contracts come first, and whether regulators approve. Trade[XYZ] says it will share details on products, eligibility and timing as approvals progress. We will not guess.
