What happened

On 29 October Sandisk (SNDK) reported $11.03 billion in revenue for its fiscal first quarter, up 23% from the quarter before. It also announced an eight-for-one stock split.

Why it matters to you

Sandisk makes flash memory, the storage inside phones, PCs and AI data centers. Data center sales were $4.80 billion, the fastest-growing part. The shares fell 5.32% in the regular session and then swung both ways after the report, so a strong quarter did not bring one clear reaction.

What to check and watch

A split changes the number of shares, not the size of the company. Holders of record on 9 November get seven extra shares per share after the close on 19 November. Trading on the new basis starts 20 November. Read your broker's notice.

What happened. Sandisk published its fiscal first quarter 2027 results on 29 October, after the US market closed. The quarter ended on 2 October. Revenue was $11.03 billion, up 23% from the previous quarter and up 378% from $2.31 billion a year earlier. Net income under US GAAP rules was $8.10 billion. Adjusted (non-GAAP) earnings were $49.51 per share. Analysts quoted by Seeking Alpha had expected $46.67 per share and about $10.7 billion in revenue.

Where the money came from. Data center sales were $4.80 billion, up 61% from the quarter before. Edge sales (devices such as phones and PCs) were $5.83 billion, up 7%. Consumer sales, such as memory cards, fell 29% to $397 million. Gross margin, the share of sales left after the cost of making the chips, was 85.0% under GAAP, against 29.8% a year earlier. CEO David Goeckeler said demand for the company's products is "robust and growing" and is driving faster growth in the data center business.

The split. Sandisk will split its stock eight for one to make it more accessible, including to employees through its stock purchase plan. Stockholders of record at the close on 9 November receive seven more shares for each share they hold. The new shares are issued after the market closes on 19 November, and trading on a split-adjusted basis is expected to begin at the open on 20 November. The company says its total market value and everyone's ownership percentage do not change. Think of cutting a pizza into more slices: the pizza stays the same size.

Why the shares moved both ways. The stock closed at $1,330.05, down 5.32%, just before the release. In extended trading, Seeking Alpha reported a 3% rise at one point, while Yahoo Finance later showed a drop of 3.31%. We could not find one agreed number, and these prices change every minute. The split itself does not change the company's total value.

What comes next. For the fiscal second quarter Sandisk expects revenue of $12.2 billion to $12.6 billion and adjusted earnings of $55.00 to $57.00 per share, on the pre-split share count. In the quarter it also spent $5.0 billion to buy back about 3.2 million of its own shares. This is a report on what the company said, not a view on the price.
