What happened
From November 2 to 6, US spot bitcoin ETFs had net outflows of $1,281.7 million, according to Farside Investors. Only Wednesday, November 4, saw inflows. Friday added another $411.9 million of outflows. BlackRock's IBIT lost $1,209.5 million over the week.
Why it matters to you
ETFs show what big US money is doing. On Saturday bitcoin traded near $76,100 after a small bounce, but fund buyers are not back yet. Without them the bounce has weak support.
What to check and watch
Watch flows on Monday, November 9. If IBIT outflows stop, pressure on the price eases. Investing.com cites $80,000 above and $73,000 below as levels to watch. This is an overview, not advice.
Where it’s happening
LIVEDrag to spin. Green dots: the exchange is trading right now (regular hours, holidays not counted). Shadow: where it is night now. Borders: Natural Earth, quakes: USGS. Layer idea: God’s Eye View (MIT).
What happened. US spot bitcoin ETFs, meaning exchange traded funds that hold real bitcoin, ended the first week of November with $1,281.7 million in net outflows. That is the sum of five days in Farside Investors data: minus $398.6 million on Monday, minus $115.6 million on Tuesday, plus $74.6 million on Wednesday, minus $430.2 million on Thursday and minus $411.9 million on Friday. Investing.com gives the same estimate: about $1.28 billion so far in November.
Who sold. Almost all of the outflow came from BlackRock's IBIT, the largest bitcoin fund: minus $1,209.5 million for the week, including $403 million on Friday. Fidelity's FBTC went the other way and ended the week about $93 million in the plus, with $42.8 million of inflows on Friday.
The backdrop. The bounce after the US midterm elections faded fast. According to Investing.com, bitcoin was down about 5.2% over 24 hours during Friday trading, and more than $1.27 billion of derivatives positions were force closed, over $1.1 billion of them bets on a rise. A selloff in tech stocks over worries about AI spending also weighed on mood. On Saturday morning bitcoin traded near $76,100.
Caveats. ETF flows show where money moves, not why. One week of outflows is not a long trend: in October weeks of inflows and outflows took turns. Farside data comes with a delay and totals can be revised slightly.
