Vietnam petrol price today: E5 RON 92 falls to 20,890 dong a litre

What happened

From 3 pm on November 5 (Vietnam time) the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance cut retail fuel prices again. E5 RON 92 fell 2,310 dong to 20,890 dong a litre. E10 RON 95-III fell 2,080 dong to 21,150. Diesel 0.05S fell only 180 dong, to 28,690.

Why it matters to you

The ministries follow the average world price of finished fuel between two pricing dates. World petrol fell about 11% in this round. Diesel fell 0.44%. That is why petrol dropped and diesel barely moved. Crude itself fell hard this week after the US midterms raised hopes of calmer Iran tensions.

What to check and watch

Watch for the next ministry round: our sources give no date. Check the Petrolimex table for your region. On November 6 Brent settled near $98 a barrel and WTI near $91. This is an overview, not advice.

What changed. From 3 pm on November 5 (Vietnam time, GMT+7) the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance cut retail fuel prices again. E5 RON 92 petrol fell 2,310 dong to 20,890 dong a litre. E10 RON 95-III fell 2,080 dong to 21,150. E10 RON 95-V fell 1,580 dong to 22,650. Diesel 0.05S and kerosene each fell 180 dong, to 28,690. Petrolimex published its own new price table the same day. It holds until the next round.

Why petrol fell more than diesel. The ministries use the average world price of finished fuel between two pricing dates. Between the November 3 and November 5 rounds, world RON 92 averaged $112.615 a barrel, down 11.61%. RON 95 averaged $113.865, down 10.98%. Diesel averaged $163.595, down only 0.44%. That matches the pump: a big cut for petrol, a small one for diesel.

Oil and tax together. This is the third cut in a row since the start of November. In total E5 RON 92 is down more than 5,100 dong a litre and E10 RON 95-III almost 4,600. Part of that is policy, not oil: from November 1 the special consumption tax on all petrol is 0% until the end of March 2027, under Resolution 45/2026/NQ-CP. We covered that cut on October 31. This story is about the newer round. The ministries also resumed paying into the Price Stabilisation Fund, 700 dong a litre on biofuel petrol and 500 dong a kilogram on mazut, and they spend nothing from it on any product.

World oil. Brent was heading for a weekly fall of 15% to 17%, depending on the source, and WTI for about 13%. LSEG data back to 1988 show that a 17% fall would be the biggest weekly drop in percentage terms since the start of COVID. Democrats won both houses of the US Congress in the midterms, which raised hopes that the conflict with Iran would ease. Phil Flynn of Price Futures Group called it a shrinking war risk premium. On Friday, November 6, Brent for January settled at $98.32 and WTI at $90.83, according to Reuters. Laodong reports slightly lower closes.

What we don't know. The date and size of the next Vietnamese round are not in our sources. One fuel business told Laodong it expects another cut, but that is one view, not an official figure. Risks remain: new worries about more US strikes on Iran, and UKMTO data show attacks on ships in the region at close to record frequency. Petrolimex also keeps a separate region 2 price for remote areas, so check your own station. We took the ministry numbers from VOV and VnExpress, which report the joint notice.
